Why is it called Campy McCampface? The story behind the name

Every vehicle deserves a name. Our campervan is called Campy McCampface – and yes, it's exactly as silly as it sounds. But behind the slightly goofy name there's actually a good story.
It started with a boat
In 2016, the British research council asked the internet for help naming a brand new polar research vessel. The suggestion that received the most votes? Boaty McBoatface. Despite the ship being officially named RSS Sir David Attenborough, Boaty McBoatface became one of the internet's most beloved moments – proof that people love humour, community and not taking themselves too seriously.
The name became a symbol of joy and spontaneity. And that is exactly the feeling we wanted to capture with our campervan.
From meme to campervan
When we finished building the campervan and it was time to give it a name, the choice came naturally. Campy McCampface captured everything we wanted the van to stand for: adventure with a smile, freedom without pretension, and a reminder that the best trips don't need to be perfectly planned.
It's a vehicle that invites laughter, not reverence. A van you take on a trip without worrying about everything being Instagram-perfect. Campy is a mate, not a limousine.
A name with personality
We believe a good vehicle name makes the trip better. It's easier to say 'shall we take Campy to the mountains?' than 'shall we take the campervan?'. The name creates a sense of belonging and memories. Several of our guests have told us they miss Campy after the trip – as if they'd been on holiday with a friend.
And that's really the whole point. A campervan holiday isn't just about where you go, but the experience along the way. Campy McCampface is built for exactly that – for Norwegian roads and adventures, with everything you need and nothing you don't.

What is a McFace anyway?
The 'McFace' format has become a genre of its own – Trainy McTrainface, Planey McPlaneface, and of course Campy McCampface. It's the internet's way of saying: 'this is something we care about, but we don't need to take it so seriously'. For us it's a perfect fit. A campervan is, after all, about freedom, nature and good times – not formalities.
